In closing, you may have read my statement about such devices not being a backup system This contains my core hdr5-500g that I can't lose and photos. The USB icon appears in my tray when I connect it and states that the device is working properly. The only main difference to the PC was that they installed XP SP2 I'm not sure if this is related to the upgrade but the external hard drive does not apper in "my computer" anymore.
Checked and after hours of trying to solve there it was. On the other hand, you have to check the driver.
All in all I'm very satisfied with the device for the price, however I have no plans on using the network functionality, instead sticking to using it as a USB drive potentially as a USB drive hanging off of a more standards compliant NAS unit.

Select Initialise Disk from the right-click context menu. I too don't know what else to try. Have 2x GB drives inside PC case for quick and dirty backups no mirroring but use SyncToy to backup everything that is important - inclusing all vomstar down "keys" in Excel sheets.

It seems more of a PC problem than a hard drive problem it would be a shame to format it only to find out the PC still wont read it. It would seem that in my circumstance the problem was power related.
If it's SP2 that's got issues, does anyone know of a patch or something to fix this? One check did it. Therefore, before creating a new partition, you have to recover its lost data.

It was being recognized only intermittently which was making me crazy. Thus far, still quite happy getting a GB unit for so little. And then, you will be given detailed operating prompts. Select the partition which needs formatting and choose Format Partition feature from the left panel.

This is cheap compared to just a few years ago. This post has been flagged and will be reviewed by our staff. However, creating partition will overwrite the original data stored on the external hard drive which is not showing up. As usual, it was on my network "F" drive, but that was an easy drive letter change.
Opening the box revealed the following contents: TweakUI did have the drive unchecked. When i originally hooked up my HDD comdtar worked, but after a few cmstar it stopped working, it is seen in my device manager as fine, but hdd5-500g viewable in the disk management, and i can see it in my computer but it will not allow me to create anything on the drive, it says something about file not specified.

JPG It does say "location 0" would that have something to ocmstar with it? When all operations are done, you will find that Windows can recognize your Toshiba external hard drive. A total of 3 sets are rotated and as some media fails, it gets replaced. In general, even our grandmothers can easily use this tool to recover lost data from external hard drive that is not detected.
